Visual artist Anu Pennanen was born in 1975 in Kirkkonummi, Finland, and is based in Berlin, Germany. She is interested in the public space and its possibilities to evoke shared narratives, which momentarily escape the given conditions of spatial organization, urban architecture and modernization. She works collaboratively and site-specifically with local people, who in her films, photographs and installations mirror and question the built environment.

She has been participating international exhibitions and film festivals since 2004, including Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki in 2012, CAC Vilnius in 2011, Centre Pompidou, Paris in 2010, Montehermoso Cultural Center, Spain 2009, Ars Baltica Photography Triennale 2008 & 2007, Frankfurter Kunstverein 2007, Liverpool International, UK 2006, Manifesta 5 Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain, 2004, Momentum Nordic Art Biennial Moss 2004.
