創作於一九九九年的《循環影院》曾於二零零一年第四十九屆威尼斯藝術雙年展香港館展出。作品不停往返注目一截傍海的公路,鮑氏以攝錄機模擬監察錄像機左右擺動的鏡頭動作,在一間完全黑暗的房間中,捕捉深夜在公路上飛馳的快車,加強了其中的交錯感和 速度感。鮑氏以這種交通往來的景像隱喻人生的起伏,玄學的飄忽,作品超越了社會學、理論框架和主流電影傳統單向的線性觀察,呈現出每一次的交會既不可預知、也不能操控,疏離處處。觀眾在跟隨鏡頭眼望望的同時,有機會打破慣常的觀望/觀賞的方式。

‘Recycling Cinema’ was shot in 1999 and shown in 2001 at the Hong Kong Pavilion during the 49th Venice Biennale. The work focuses on an expressway along the seashore using a camera which moves from left to right, capturing high speed cars shot from a small dark room. Pau paid great attention to speed and timing in order to represent the ups and downs of life. A haunting allegory of reality, metaphysics and cinema, the work transcends the sociological, theoretical or formal conventions of cinematic practice with specific challenges to the uni-directional participation of viewing and linearity. Every passing-by is unintentional, unpredictable, out-of-control and distant. The work plays with the constructions of narrative and the act of viewing.
